Scarab beetles hold a very important and meaningful place in ancient Egyptian iconography. The scarab (also called dung beetle) was revered as an affiliate of the god Ra, creator of the universe and Sun God. The scarab beetle would evoke the journey of the sun across the sky, as it rolled balls of dung through the land each day, from rising to setting. This image very much ties into the theme of eternal renewal and the cyclic nature of life.
Considered a sacred symbol of rebirth, it would be used as a protective amulet against illness and a key to eternal afterlife.

These special charms are created in small batches, completely locally within the UK, by multi talented craftspeople. Hand carved from wax by us, then casted in Scotland, and finally hand-finished and polished (with its final beautiful gold cloak) back in London - we’ve spent hours dreaming and perfecting this beauty.
We’ve chosen a modern and bold earring design for this one, the simplicity highlights the beetle whilst keeping in line with its antique provenance.
